Industry :

Retail

Project Duration :

Oct 2024 - May 2025

Problem :

Traditional genealogy and storytelling platforms often struggle with outdated interfaces, slow performance, fragmented content management, and limited collaboration capabilities. Users needed a modern, media-rich platform that could support storytelling, family tree management, historical records, and collaborative publishing in a seamless and scalable experience. Additionally, the existing frontend architecture required modernization to improve performance, maintainability, and feature scalability without disrupting active users.

Solution :

Storied was enhanced and modernized through a large-scale frontend migration and feature expansion initiative focused on performance, scalability, and user experience.

Key solutions included:

  • Migration from React.js + Redux to Next.js with TanStack Query for improved SSR, caching, and state management

  • Rich storytelling interface supporting photos, audio, PDFs, tagging, and collaborative publishing

  • Family tree visualization and genealogical relationship management

  • Subscription and account management flows with secure upgrades and renewals

  • Feature-flagging infrastructure for progressive rollouts and safe QA transitions

  • Secure authentication and role-based access control using Auth0 and JWT

  • Performance optimization through lazy loading, code splitting, and tree-shaking

  • Modular UI architecture using MUI and Tailwind CSS for maintainability and scalability

The platform delivered a faster, more engaging user experience while improving storytelling workflows, subscription retention, and long-term frontend scalability.

Challenge :

Migrating a large-scale production application from React + Redux to Next.js + TanStack Query without user-facing downtime

  • Managing progressive feature rollouts while maintaining stability between legacy and new codebases

  • Optimizing performance for media-rich storytelling experiences across desktop and mobile devices

  • Handling complex relational data structures between stories, people, media, and family trees

  • Implementing secure subscription flows, payment handling, and access-level gating for paid features

  • Ensuring scalable and maintainable frontend architecture during rapid feature development

  • Integrating Auth0 authentication with secure session management and role-based permissions

  • Maintaining UI consistency and modularity across a growing component ecosystem

  • Supporting collaborative publishing, privacy controls, and public/private content distribution workflows

  • Improving SEO, caching, and page performance through SSR and optimized data-fetching strategies

Summary :

Storied is a modern storytelling and genealogy platform designed to help users preserve, organize, and share family histories through rich media storytelling, collaborative publishing, and historical record integration. The platform combines family tree visualization, newspaper archive search, subscription management, and social storytelling features into a seamless web experience. Built with modern frontend technologies and scalable architecture, Storied enhances digital storytelling through optimized performance, secure access control, and intuitive content collaboration tools.
